General Italian Classes

Italy was one of the birthplaces of modern western civilisation, with the Roman Empire spreading far and wide. The country is also home to immense cultural treasures, with more UNESCO World Heritage sites than any other country. The capital Rome is a huge draw for tourists with the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Vatican City on many people's 'must-do' list.

Yet, there is a lot more to the country than this, and who can fail to have their heart stirred by at least one of its many other locations? It could be Renaissance Florence with its enormous-domed cathedral or seductive Sicily, featuring Etna, the tallest, largest and most active volcano in Europe, and the Greek influence at The Valley of the Temples. Or how about Venice, with its charming gondolas drifting through its intricate network of waters?

Italy's contributions to art and design are immeasurable. Among its prized developments are its renowned cooking, including its staples of pizza and pasta, opera, which exudes tragedy and the dramatic, fashion, with Milan a hotbed for style, as well as sportscar manufacturers, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati, which fuse engineering with beauty. The Ferrari Formula 1 team has legions of fans around the world.

As well as in its homeland, Italian is also spoken in a part of Switzerland and swathes of Argentina.

Most of our adult students follow a General Italian programme, but we also offer Italian for exam preparation.

We develop your Italian with a variety of everyday topics of your choice, such as:

  • Food
  • Holidays
  • Sport
  • Films
  • Technology
  • The environment
  • Hobbies
  • The news

We also cover practical Italian for use abroad. This includes -

  • Ordering in bars, caf├ęs and restaurants and avoiding common mistakes native English speakers make.
  • Asking for (and understanding!) directions.
  • Booking hotels and cars.
  • Making small talk with the locals.

Do you want to do more speaking? More listening? More reading? More writing? Your Italian teacher will be happy to personalise your classes for you.

Our online platform makes it possible for your teacher to share stimulating and modern videos to practice listening skills, or online magazines or newspapers to practice reading skills.

It is also possible for you to combine a General Italian programme with Italian for exam preparation.

We offer both one-to-one and group programmes, so please contact us to get more information and speak with one of our experienced staff, who will help you select the right course for you.
